Q:

Does an Achilles tendon rupture need surgery to be repaired?

A:

Not all Achilles tendon ruptures require surgery. If you suspect you have injured your tendon, you should have it checked by a doctor. The goal will be to treat the injury without operating, so you may be placed in a cast to see if the tendon will heal while being immobilized. Due to the extent of your injury, surgery may be the best option.
